what the data means

4 key insights.

01

Fintech leads because compliance creates citable content

Fintech companies are required to publish clear, factual, source-cited content about their products by regulatory bodies. This is exactly the type of content AI models prefer to cite. The compliance burden inadvertently creates GEO authority.

02

E-commerce has the most room to improve

E-commerce product pages are typically optimized for Google Shopping and conversion — not for AI citation. Adding structured data, verifiable claims, and category authority content can dramatically improve GEO scores. Early movers in e-commerce GEO will own their categories in AI search.

03

Year-over-year improvement is accelerating

All industries improved their average GEO scores year-over-year as awareness of AI search visibility grew. The gap between early adopters and laggards is widening — companies that invested in GEO in 2025 are now 20-30 points ahead of competitors who are starting in 2026.

04

Score above 60 = category authority

Companies with GEO scores above 60 are being cited in 50%+ of relevant AI search queries in their category. This is the threshold at which AI search becomes a meaningful traffic and lead generation channel. Currently fewer than 15% of companies across all industries have reached this threshold.

methodology

How this data was collected.

Plexrio runs 500 prompts per brand per week across ChatGPT (GPT-4o), Claude (Sonnet), Gemini (1.5 Pro), and Perplexity. Prompts are categorized as brand queries, category discovery, comparison, and problem-solution. GEO score is computed from mention rate (60% weight), sentiment (-1 to +1, 20% weight), and share of voice vs competitors (20% weight). Industry benchmarks are aggregated from anonymized scan data across 340+ companies on the Plexrio platform.
